How to create an extract?
General information
Only members can submit an extract to the Disbyt database.
You can choose yourself if you want to submit all your data or only a part of your data. We recommend that you submit all your data, that you are interested in. Avoid to submit data from other researchers which you don't want to get research queries about. Of course, you can submit data that already are in the Disbyt database, if you have interest in the people.
Following information is included
Names, occupations and family links. For events like birth, marriage and death info about date, place and source. (Today, we don't present occupation, date or source. Possibly, this will be changed with your permission in the future.) Text comments, biographies and similar data is not included.
All information older than 100 years are accepted. Information younger than 100 years is accepted only if the individual has been deceased for more than 25 years ago. This limitation is made automatically, so you don't need to think about this.
How to do a Gedcom extract from your software
Check in the user manual of your software how to a Gedcom extract. Gedcom is a standardized format to exchange data between different softwares. Most softwares can create Gedcom export, otherwise we strongly recommend you to change the software that you use.
Normally, there is an "Export" option in the File menu. In other case, you will Gedcom as an option when you choose "Save as" in the File menu. You will then create a file with a name like FILNAME.GED. To avoid confusion it is good if you name the file DBnnnnn.GED, where nnnnn is your membership no in the Dis Society. You should then send this file to the Disbyt operator.
Where to send the Gedcom extract?
The easiest way is to send the file as an attachment to an email. If the file size is more than 1 Mb it is good to compress the file to a Zip file. (To zip a file, you normally right click on the mouse and choose Compress or Send to compress.)
Disbyt operators
Choose Disbyt operators at the menu in the left margin.
